Special thanks to Scott Carles, who updates the wiki link for this family here: https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Space:Edward_Bangs_Disputed_Origins&public=1 and who supplied the following links for books you can purchase about the Bangs family written and researched by Paul and Peter Bangs Volumes 1 and 2 - which I obtained permission to share :
Here is the blurb for the books:

Much has been written about the ancestors of Edward Bangs, the Pilgrim Father who came from Panfield and Hempstead in Essex. The authors have spent over a decade in meticulous research in a wide variety of national and local archives to uncover more. The result has been startling. Far more than dry facts about relationships (other accounts of which are now found quite often to be erroneous), the painstaking access to primary resource material has resulted in the discovery of a sweeping story of the family in quite unexpected detail. As yeomen and gentlemen, the family has left its mark and it has been possible to follow this through detailed study of Wills, Manorial Rolls and other documents, case papers in many different courts (Chancery, King’s Bench, Common Pleas, Court of Wards, Star Chamber, Patent Rolls, Close Rolls, Fine Rolls, Inquisitions, Sheriff’s and Mayoral Courts, etc.), Tax records, Muster Rolls, the Paston Letters, land and property deals, (including Feet of Fines), church documents and much more. The two volumes of the work follow key family members from the earliest origins found in the late 13th century in eastern England to their gradual migration towards Essex, Suffolk and London in the 19th and 20th centuries.

This first volume deals with the ancestors of Edward the Pilgrim Father and others of his generation (for the English life of Edward himself you will have to consult Volume Two) and includes tales of manorial misdemeanors, riotous traitors, sedition, rape, a Royal Pardon, kidnapping (more than once), dysfunctional family disputes, forced marriage (of the bridegroom, not the bride!), fraud and deceit, and riches acquired and squandered. Among prominent family members are Augustine, 15th century Sheriff of Norwich (and purveyor of fish and building materials), followed in the 16th century by another Sheriff – Edward’s grandfather Richard the tanner, about whom there is published for the first time hitherto undiscovered, shocking details of his life (and above all, his death – but no spoilers are to be given here!).

These stories are told for the first time, and many contradict existing suppositions about the family – but none are invented. At times they may read like fiction, but all are true, all are gleaned from original documents and are well worth the read! The book is scrupulously documented with source references and copiously illustrated with photos of key locations and, especially, images of some of the many parchments and papers consulted.

9th Great Grandparents
Captain Edward Bangs
Christened 28 Oct 1591 Panfield, Essex, England
Note: the book about the Dawes-Gates line claims he was not born in Chichester, Essex, England
Immigrated: aboard ship Anne, arriving at Plymouth at end of July 1623 - leaving before his father made his will.
In 1623, he was allotted 4 acres - an acre of land was allowed per person regardless of age and therefore, it is assumed he had a wife and two children at that time.  By 22 May 1627, he is listed as one person in two different documents, thus it could mean he had a wife and two children prior to his voyage and they died prior to 1627. I have not read whether he had servants, and if he did, would the land not revert to them?
Occupation: Farmer (yeoman), Shipwright (in charge of building first sailing vessel in the colonies), Innkeeper 6 October 1657: "Liberty is granted unto Edward Bangs to draw and sell wine and strong waters at Eastham, provided it be for the refreshment of the English and not to be sold to the Indians."
Life Note: named in his father's will of 20 August 1631, though he was already in the colonies.
