Obituary:  Joseph F. Davenport was born on November 6, 1854 near Bowling Green, Kentucky. He departed this life on October 14, at 9:15 p.m. at the home here. On July 30, 1876 he was married to Sarah Frances Young near Bowling Green, Kentucky. They spent 5 years in Kentucky. In the fall of 1881 he moved with his family to Kansas. ... To this union was born 10 children. A son, Arthur, passed away in 1904 at the age of 22 years. Mrs. Davenport passed away in May, 1926. The following children survive: Anna F. "50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED HERE

Mr. and Mrs. George Davenport Honored at Reception.

In celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary Mr. and Mrs. George Davenport of Florence, Ore., were honored with a reception Friday at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Carl Southworth, at 1694 Southwest Montgomery drive, here.

Mr. and Mrs. Davenport were married at Arcadia, Kan., on March 2, 1884. On the same day they left for what was then Spokane Falls, Washington territory, where they settled on a homestead and lived for 13 years. When irrigation was developed in western farming, Mr. Davenport improved land consecutively in Clarkston, Wash., the Yakima valley and at Twin Falls, Idaho. In 1916 they moved to Oregon and settled near Eugene, where Mr. Davenport worked in the Booth-Kelly lumber mill at Springfield. Four years ago they moved to Florence, on the coast in Lane county, and there they are at home to their many friends who visit the beach.

The Davenports have a son, Herbert E., in Long Beach, Cal., and a grandson, Lawrence, there. They were unable to attend the golden wedding celebration. Another grandson, John Southworth, lives here.

Mr. Davenport was born near Bowling Green, Ky., on August 23, 1859. Mrs. Davenport, nee Clara Hammond, was born near Springfield, Ill., on July 5, 1861."

WAS ONE OF THE OLD MORMON BATTALION VETERANS

This morning Joseph Taylor died at his home at Farr West, of general debility, at the advanced age of 75 years. He was a pioneer in every sense of the word. He had lived in Weber county for fifty years and was a member of the old Mormon Battalion. He leaves many relatives to mourn his loss, among whom is Bishop Greene Taylor, who is a brother. His life was known to all. He had friends by the score, but he had passed his three score years and ten and he is now numbered among those who have crossed the river.

Biography:
Born on her parents' farm in Pleasant Township, Brown, Ohio, on the 4^th of February, 1826, Mary was the third daughter and fifth child in the family of Andrew Moore and Rebecca Curry Moore. Details of her early life are unknown; however, the influence of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ became a part of her life when "Mormon" missionaries called on her family in 1832. Her parents were baptized the next year, along with her eldest sister and two grandmothers.

When she was age eight, her father sold their farm. After moving to Clay County, Missouri, they bought a farm of eighty acres. She and her family enjoyed comparative peace there for about two years. Mary was baptized into the church in 1836. When mob hostilities commenced in that county, her father agreed, along with other saints, to leave the area. He sold his farm and bought a tract of unimproved land for farming about four miles from Far West, Missouri. The family worked together to develop a farm there.

Mary lived through those difficult days when her father had to surrender his two rifles and a sword to the governor's militia, then in 1838 sign a "deed of trust of all real and personal property" to defray the expenses of their military enemies. The Moores and others were left to get out of the state the best way they could to comply with the governor's expulsion order.

On 6 March 1839 Mary's family left their home in Missouri and about nine days later crossed the Mississippi River at Quincy, Illinois. The family moved to McDonough County, where her father rented a farm.

During the next seven years Mary experienced many of the trials of the Latter-day Saints, since her father's family participated actively in the work of the Church.

Just three months before the martyrdom of the Prophet and his brother Hyrum, Mary was married in Nauvoo to Joseph Taylor, 24 March 1844. They lived on Lot #126 just across the street south of the printing office in Nauvoo.

Following the death of the Prophet, mob actions and burning of the saints' property began anew. During those difficult times Joseph and Mary's first daughter Clarissa Jane was born 4 July 1845. About six months later this couple was endowed in the Nauvoo Temple 24 January 1846. They left their home and crossed the Mississippi River on the ice 8 February 1846 in company with the saints who were beginning their westward trek.

After the family arrived in Council Bluffs in June 1846, less than a month passed before Joseph was enlisted in the Mormon Battalion. On 20 July 1846 he marched off with the Battalion, leaving Mary to care for their small daughter. Mary's second daughter was born in Council Bluffs 22 February 1847. Family tradition indicates that the newborn daughter was so weak that she was not expected to live. A message, sent to Bishop James Lake, requested him to come and administer to the infant. He gave the child a wonderful blessing; she grew to maturity and outlived all others in her family unit.

Mary no doubt received help from caring relatives and friends until her husband was discharged from the Mormon Battalion and rejoined her in October 1847. There in Council Bluffs their first son, Joseph Allen, was born 3 August 1848. A second son, William Andrew, was born 15 May 1850 in nearby Kanesville, where the saints had been advised to gather for their westward journey.
In the latter part of May 1850 Mary and Joseph and their three small children, the youngest just two weeks old, began their journey across the plains. Filled with difficult and frightening experiences, the journey finally ended with the company's arrival in Salt Lake City 5 September 1850.
Living for a time in Salt Lake City, the Taylor family moved later that year to a farm east of Kaysvile (now Fruit Heights). They later relocated to the central part of Kaysville near the present main square in town. Together Joseph and Mary began building an adobe house (some accounts indicate this was a log home), Mary carrying the mortar to assist her husband. While working one day, she became seriously ill, went into convulsions, and died 4 April 1852 at the birth of her fifth child, a stillborn son. Her husband made a crude coffin from his wagon box, placed his dear wife and baby in the box, and took them south for burial in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Mary's daughter Melvina was told after she matured that she resembled her mother, who was tall, had rather pointed features and gray eyes. This same daughter, who was just five when her mother died, spoke of the special affection and care given by her mother when she was alive. The family recalled events which bespeak her efficient management of her household. Just before her death Mary had washed and ironed and had made enough bread and butter to last a week. Too, those who knew her described her as a neat, clean lady, very noble and refined.

GRIM REAPER CLAIMS EARLY PIONEER WOMAN-- The funeral of Mrs. Clarisa Taylor, who died Sunday evening, Nov.29, was held Dec. 1 at the Naples ward house, Bishop Fred Wall of Jensen presiding. The singing was by a double mixed quartet from the Naples choir, which sang "Through Deepening Trials," "Some Day" and "Eternity". Elmer Manwaring offered the opening prayer, and Bishop Byron Goodrich the benediction. Thomas J. Caldwell, an old acquaintance, told of her life. President Wallace Calder also talked, paying the deceased many tributes and to all who build good characters as a preparatory foundation for a life in the Eternal world. The deceased was born in Nauvoo, Ill., in 1845. At the age of five she came, with her parents, across the plains, traveling all the way with ox teams. They came to Kaysville, Utah. She married Teancum Taylor and later moved to Ashley valley. She has endured the trials which accompanied pioneer life with courage and fortitude. She is the mother of fourteen children, three of whom are living. They are Jesse Taylor of Vernal, Lester Taylor of Ogden and Mrs. Leo Searles of Naples, who were present at the funeral as were many other relatives and friends. She lived in Jensen for a number of years with her daughter Mrs. Leo Searles, until they moved to Naples this fall. She was buried in the Vernal cemetery."

Another obituary about her: 12-11-1925 "CALLED BY DEATH AFTER WEEKS OF SUFFERING-- Funeral services were held December 1, 1925, for Mrs. Clarissa Jane Taylor, pioneer mother, who died on the 29th. Mrs. Taylor was born in Nauvoo, Hancock county, Ill, July 4, 1845.Her father and mother immigrated to Utah in 1850. They made the journey with ox teams, spending three months en-route. They settled in Kaysville and lived there four years. In 1854 the family moved to Ogden, where they lived until she married Teancum Taylor, August 15, 1860. President Brigham Young performed the ceremony. From Ogden they moved to Eden valley. In 1863 her first child, Lavinia was born. The same evening their house was surrounded by Indians. The Taylors thought the Indians had come to run off the stock, but they departed in an hour or so without any trouble. On September 2nd, 1877 the Taylor family moved to Vernal, where they settled, the Teancum Taylor family being the fourth family in Ashley valley.Mrs. Taylor moved to Deep creek, where she lived for sixteen years, then to Dry Fork, where she lived for three years. Her daughter Annie was married July 4, 1904, and since that time Mrs. Taylor has lived with her except when making short visits with her other children. She is the mother of 14 children, three of which are living at the present time. She has 27 grand-children, 39 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, making a total of 72 descendants." 

Another small note in newspaper says: "Mrs. Clarissa Taylor who has been suffering from cancer of the liver for a long time, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leo Searle Sunday evening. The funeral was held Tuesday in the Naples ward house."

A year later, Elizabeth returned to Eden and brought our little son Emuel home, who had remained with his grandparents.

Obit:  Elizabeth Bachman, wife of Emuel Bachman, died yesterday morning at the home, 611 Park street, Salt Lake, of dropsy (old term for edema). She was born in Weber County, the daughter of Joseph and Jane Lake Taylor. She had resided in Salt Lake for the past two years. She is survived by her husband, parents, several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held Friday at 12 o'clock from the Second ward meeting house, Salt Lake. Body will be brought to Ogden, where second funeral services will be held Friday at 3:30 at Larkin & Sons' chapel Interment will be in the City cemetery.

OBIT:
After an lingering illness of several months duration, Frank Taylor passed away at his home in Afton in the early morning of February 6th.

Mr Taylor was born October 19 1865 in Harrisville, Utah, the son of Joseph and Maria Harris Taylor. He was married to Pricilla Merril in the Logan Temple January 1st 1892 (This should be 28 Jun 1893) and to this union were born 12 children all of whom with his widow survive.

Twenty three years ago the family moved to Star Valley, making their home in Fairview Wyo. where Mr. Taylor was prominently identified with various civic movements and was engaged in ranching, was a successful cattleman respected and admired by all who knew hi for his honesty and integrity in business and for his solicitude for his family, a loving considerate husband and father.

Eight years ago Mr and Mrs Taylor disposed of their property in Fairview and made their home in Logan for some two years, but a yearning for a home in Star Valley were there are wide open spaces prompted him to dispose of his property in Logan and return to Star Valley. This time to a ranch northwest of Afton where they have since made their home.

He is survived by his widow, one brother and the following son s and daughters; Vaughn Taylor Twin Falls, Ida, Lila Robers and Mabel Maughn of Alhambra Calif. Nora Papworth of Salt Lake city, Ada Creamer, Ogden Utah, Acquilla, Clarence, Raymond, Delbert, Albert and Venral Taylor all of Afton and LeGrand Taylor who because of the responsibility of caring for sheep on the Wyoming desert is unable to attend the funeral of his father.

Funeral services were held for Frank Taylor in the North ward chapel February 9th at 1 p.m.
Bishop Franklin R. Gardner presiding. Prayers were by E.D. Sessions and Ben Hale.
Musical numbers were Quartet by Gardner bros. "Friend O' Mine": Vocal Solo by Ladell Sessions "Not Understood"; Violin Duet, Arch and Dean Gardner "Prayer Perfect" Duet Mr and Mrs Harold Allen, "A Little While" Duet Nellie Roberts and Gean Harrison "Sweet Savior Mine".

Bishop J.L. Brown of Fairview was the first speaker, he testified that Mr Taylor's counsel and advice was lofty and evidenced high ideals, said in his years of acquaintance with the deceased, and they were many, he had always been a sincere friend and his faith was implicit in a life hereafter.
Ozro Gardner paid glowing tribute to the splendid family Mr and Mrs. Taylor have reared and their ideal family life. Cited instances wherein Mr Taylor had given generously for the benefit of missionaries.

Willard Brown of Fairview said that Mr Taylor had long been a neighbor and friend which friendship he would always cherish. He was charitable to every one and on all occasions when dire necessity faced a neighbor, he was the first to offer assistance and that he loved his family and found his greatest happiness when surrounded by his children.

N.P. Lee eulogized the splendid characteristic of honest and absolute reliability in a high degree by the deceased, and that no greater tribute can be paid a man. That he had known Mr Taylor for 51 years and that he came of a family of sterling worth prominent in early church annals of Utah.
Bp. O.Low said he had enjoyed the acquaintance and friendship of Mrs Taylor since early childhood, having been born and reared in the same town of Smithfield, Utah. she also enjoys a noble heritage, admonished the children of Mr and Mrs Taylor to live nobly and well
