Thomas Best Taylor and Mary Elizabeth Runner

Thomas Best Taylor
Parents: Joseph Taylor and Polly Ann Hudnall
Born: 9 July 1823 Richardsville, Warren,Kentucky
Military:  Civil War (Union)
Married: Mary Elizabeth Runner 27 February 1851 Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky
Died: 29 September 1862 Evansville, Vanderburgh, Indiana
Buried: Oak Hill Cemetery, Evansville, Vanderburgh, Indiana Section 24, row 12, grave 24
Short life sketch:
From “Family History of the Joseph Taylor, Jr. and Sarah Best Family”By Shari H. Franke

Thomas Best Taylor, born 9 July 1823, near Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky, married 27 February 1851, Mary Elizabeth Runner, at Warren County, Kentucky. M. J. Evans performed the ceremony. Her father, William Runner was bondsman for the marriage.

Thomas Best was a very handsome young man and a good farmer. Thomas must have felt a great responsibility when the Civil war started, for we know he joined the Union Army. He was a member of Company B, 38th Kentucky Infantry. He was shot in the arm accidentally by his own men while returning from a patrol. He was then taken to the Union Hospital at Evansville, Vanderburgh, Indiana, where he remained several months to recuperate. His arm had to be amputated and gangrene set in. Unfortunately, Thomas Best Taylor eventually died as a result of his wounds on 29 September 1862, at Evansville, Vanderburgh, Indiana. He was only 39 years old. He was buried at the U.S. Military Cemetery at Evansville.

Mary Elizabeth Runner, born 17 March 1827, near Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky, was the daughter of William Runner and his first wife, Margaret Penner. She was a devoted wife, who loved her husband very much. We understand that she rode horseback in the rain, from Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky to Evansville, Vanderburgh, Indiana to see her injured husband at the Union Hospital. How hard it must have been for Mary Elizabeth to lose her husband at such a young age! She was left with two little boys to raise alone. They were only eight and five years old when Thomas B. died.

Mary Elizabeth died on 18 November 1893, near Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky, where she was buried at the Green River Union Cemetery.

The 1894 Kansas History and Heritage project reported about Nicholas that in 1854: bought 970 acres in Warren County, Kentucky then turned around and sold it, moving to Missouri in Mississippi County.
1855: settled in Jefferson County, Kansas near Winchester, eventually buying up 240 acres which he sold in 1869. He opened and operated a store in Mulberry for two years.
From 1871-1886 he lived in a stone home he built from rock in the quarry on his land with the exception of 1 year in Girard and 3 years in Baldwin City.

1886 he moved into his final home which he built at the cost of $12,000

Theo E. Wayment, 82, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2006, after a valiant fight for survival at the McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden.
Theo was born March 18, 1924, in Ogden, Utah, the son of Theodore Wayment and Hazel Caroline East.

He married Shirley Schaer October 22, 1946, in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Theo was a resident of Ogden, Utah for 38 years. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged as Seaman First Class April 1946 from Oakland, California. He went on to work for the Ogden City Rail Road, the old Thomas Dee Hospital then completed a career as an Aircraft Mechanic at Hill Air Force Base from where he retired.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in which he served as a temple worker and fulfilled many various callings including two LDS Stake mission calls – one of which he served as a counselor in the Lorin Farr Stake Mission Presidency. He enjoyed working closely with the young missionaries and had a great love of this work.
Theo had a great love for the aircraft he worked on at Hill Air Force Base; for camping, fishing, and especially for all the animals both domestic and in the wild. He was a farmer at heart and found great joy in growing his gardens and working on the family farm in Warren, Utah.

Surviving are wife Shirley Schaer; daughters Karen W. Allred (Larry) of West Point, Patricia W. Cunningham Hensely of West Jordan, Janet W. Tetlow (Mark) of Monroe, North Carolina; his sister Dianne W. Bullock (Carl) of North Ogden; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
