From "Ogden Standard", dated 12 June 1905: "MRS.
TAYLOR DEAD-- Was Ninety Years Old and Came to Utah in 1854-- Eleanor Burket Taylor, wife of John Taylor, died at the family residence near Plain City at 7 o'clock last evening of old age, being in her 90th year. The deceased was one of the pioneers of Utah, having come to this state in 1854, from the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory. She joined the Latter-day Saints church in Nauvoo and crossed the plains in ox-teams, during which she suffered all the hardships incidents thereto. She was a faithful member and worker of the cause which she espoused at an early age and was one of the best-known women in the county. Mrs. Taylor is survived by eleven children as

He was also socially identified with the masonic order

His name was mentioned for State Senator but he had very strong feelings about temperance.
Married Julia Ann Elizabeth Cole 26 June 1854 Bowling Green, Warren, Kentucky
The 1894 Kansas History and Heritage project reported about Nicholas that in 1854: bought 970 acres in Warren County, Kentucky then turned around and sold it, moving to Missouri in Mississippi County.
1855: settled in Jefferson County, Kansas near Winchester, eventually buying up 240 acres which he sold in 1869. He opened and operated a store in Mulberry for two years.
From 1871-1886 he lived in a stone home he built from rock in the quarry on his land with the exception of 1 year in Girard and 3 years in Baldwin City.
In 1873 he fell from a load of hay onto a 3-tined fork which entered his body just below the sternum. Two of the tines passed through his lungs and the third penetrated the liver and came out near the spinal column.  It was nearly fatal and took a long time to recuperate.
1886 he moved into his final home which he built at the cost of $12,000
He owned 557 acres of land and raised grain and stock, specializing in raising Poland-China Hogs with great success.
