18 Oct. 1788–15 Mar. 1871. Store owner/keeper, carpenter. Born in Bedford, Bedford Co., Pennsylvania. Son of George Burket Sr. and Catharine Swovelin. Married first Sarah Smith, 1810. Purchased home in Winchester, Randolph Co., Indiana, 1821; extended house to include store, which he operated for several years. Resided at White River, Randolph Co., 1830. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1831, in Randolph Co. Attended church conferences held 29 Nov.–1 Dec. and 6–7 Dec. 1831, in Randolph Co. Ordained an elder, by 1832. Elder’s license revoked, 1832 and 1833. Moved to Jackson Co., Missouri, 1832. Moved to Clay Co., Missouri, Nov. 1833. Members of Camp of Israel camped in his field outside Liberty, Clay Co., 25 June 1834. Reordained an elder, 5 Nov. 1834, in Clay Co. Received into high priests quorum in Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 14 Apr. 1836. Served mission to Illinois, 1836. Moved to Illinois, 1839. Resided in Hancock Co., Illinois, by 1840; likely resided in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., by 1841. Wife died, ca. 1846. Left Nauvoo, 1846. Married second Elizabeth Evans, 1846. Moved to Kanesville (later Council Bluffs), Pottawattamie Co., Iowa, by spring 1848. Moved to West Jordan, Salt Lake Co., Utah Territory, 1852; to Bingham’s Fort in Weber Co., Utah Territory, fall 1855; and to Ogden Valley, Weber Co., 1862. Died at Eden, Weber Co.

From "Ogden Standard", dated 12 June 1905: "MRS.
TAYLOR DEAD-- Was Ninety Years Old and Came to Utah in 1854-- Eleanor Burket Taylor, wife of John Taylor, died at the family residence near Plain City at 7 o'clock last evening of old age, being in her 90th year. The deceased was one of the pioneers of Utah, having come to this state in 1854, from the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory. She joined the Latter-day Saints church in Nauvoo and crossed the plains in ox-teams, during which she suffered all the hardships incidents thereto. She was a faithful member and worker of the cause which she espoused at an early age and was one of the best-known women in the county. Mrs. Taylor is survived by eleven children as
