Teancum Taylor (a.k.a. "T")
Parents:  John Taylor and Eleanor Burkett
To see him  as a child, grouped with his parents:  http://upperlevelgen.blogspot.com/search?q=eleanor+burkett
Born 21 Dec 1836 Liberty, Clay, Missouri
LDS Pioneer Overland Trail (Unknown company)
Black Hawk War Veteran

Military:   Black-Hawk War
Talent: spoke Ute and was mourned by them for 3 days when he died
Occupation:  Weber County Deputy Sheriff

Cattle ranching in Lewiston, Idaho.
In 1877 moved to Ashley Valley, arriving on September 16,
with 150 head of cattle and about the same number of horses.
(1880) Cattle Raiser
Information: He arrived in Ashley Valley Sept. 16, 1877, his family being the fourth white family to settle there. He was the first man to bring a load of pine logs into the valley, from what is now known as Taylor Mountain. The mountain was named for him. He was the first known person to enter Mt. Dell (Dry Fork), and lived there for a number of years.
Married 1) Mary Jane Hiatt 20 May 1859 Millcreek, Salt Lake, Utah
2) Clarissa Jane Taylor (his first cousin) 15 Aug 1860 Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah
Died 17 Nov 1907 Dragon, Uintah, Utah
COD:  cardiac paralysis
Buried:  20 Nov 1907 Vernal Cemetery, Vernal, Uintah, Utah
Headstone for Teancum

Obituary:  Teancum Taylor died at Dragon last Sunday, November 17 after an illness which covered a period of nearly one year. Last March he was injured by a horse from which injuries he never fully recovered. The tragic death of his son Ruben Taylor last summer and worry over the reported disappearance of his son "Cap" Taylor from his home in Wyoming a few week ago, doubtless hastened the end.
The funeral was held in the Vernal ward house Wednesday afternoon, Bishop John N. Davis conducting the services. The burial was at the Vernal cemetery. Had he lived until December 21, Mr. Taylor would have been seventy-one years old , having been born in Missouri December 21, 1836. He has been in Utah for more than fifty years and was known all over the state. Deceased leaves a wife and eight children: James Taylor, Charles Taylor at Dragon; Jess and Lester Taylor, Mrs. Lavina Johnson and Mrs. Annie Searles at Deep Creek; Mrs. Lillie Ruple at Island Park and Teancum "Cap" Taylor at Shell, Wyoming. The latter was reported missing a few weeks ago but he had only gone to Montana on business.
During the Black Hawk war, Mr. Taylor did valiant service for his country and during the invasion of Johnston's army he was just as faithful to his church. He was one of the first settlers in Ashley valley and from Taylor mountain, which bears his name, he hauled timber for the building of cabins.

It refers to his father as "Cap" but I had never heard that he went by that nickname.
Teancum Junior did go by that as well as "Captain"
Note that it was alleged (meaning suspected that) he harbored and fed the mob
I don't know the full history so he is innocent until proven guilty.
Anyone know the truth?
