Jan Aerse 1723 Rachel Bulyea 1726

Note: According to a patron on Family Search: the Dutch patronymic naming system gave him (Jan) the name of Willemszen (or son of Willemsen). However, church records call him Aert Aertse after his marriage and the name eventually became anglicized to Auser and Orser.

In this post, you will see several clips of original records.
Some use Dutch terms: the word gedoop = baptized, geboren = born, getrout = married.

1790 US Census (David is head of house) Mt. Pleasant, Westchester County, New York. There are 3 while free males over 16, including head of house, and 2 white free males under 16, 3 white females. This doesn't necessarily mean six of their seven children and themselves. The census doesn't give exact ages for anyone. So, while it does indicate David and a wife are alive, The children listed could be grandchildren. If David and Lena started having children in 1765, it would make their children ages 25 years and younger and that means there is a good possibility at least one child is living with them.

William Orser

Born March 1763 Ossining, Westchester, New York, British Colonial America
Christened 11 Sep 1763 Dutch Reformed Church, Tarrytown, New York, British Colonial America

William's christening/baptism
Note: his mother's name is given as Ragel

William was a United Empire Loyalist
(faithful to the English Crown)

Military: William served in the King's Dragoons, though how he did this when he would only have been thirteen years old during the Revolutionary War, is a mystery to me. Perhaps they meant his sentiment was with the Loyalists rather than actual service? I found on findagrave the information that as of 1783, he found himself unwelcome among the colonists and walked to Canada with others. So...it is still a mystery how he could have served.  I have asked a much wiser genealogist (who is related to him) what she thinks. I'll give an update when/if she does.
Married 1) Mary Craig (widow of his brother-in-law, James Craig)abt 1790
Children: John, Phoebe, Lydia, Maria, William, Elizabeth
2) Mary Ann (Polly) Blake  abt 1800 New Brunswick, Canada
Children: Stephen, George, Edward, John, George, Samuel

Plaque about William's settling the town of Hartland

Died 23 Dec 1844 Hartland, Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada
Buried Orser Cemetery, Harland, New Brunswick, Canada

If you go to the findagrave site for this cemetery, it claims:
"The Orser's stone reads, "William Orser, Died December 23, 1844" and "Mary Blake-Craig-Orser, Second wife of William Orser, Died, 1856"."
Assuming they meant this William, one must wonder what stone they saw since this is the only stone that is available on the site.
