John Ogden 1700-1780 Mary Osborn 1705-1758

Note: the book mentioned below "Ogden Family etc." relied in part on Gustav Anjou, a liar and a thief who faked many family lines and extorted many thousands of dollars from people looking for family members.  Thankfully, more sources were used, such as wills and other documents.

The one I had claimed as much.  However, no source or documentation demonstrating this has been found.  Note that the 'siblings' are all born in New Jersey, not Maryland.  According to findagrave, it is more likely that he was a descendant of either James Ogden or Jonathan Ogden who were transported to Maryland in 1660 and 1680 (see "The New Early Settlers of Maryland" by Dr. Carson Gibb)

-M-
4th Great grandfather

Thomas Jeffcott

Christened 16 May 1783 Nuneaton, Warwick, England
Note: name abbreviated/spelled Thos. Jefcoat on record.  Listed as illegitimate.  His mother's name is abbreviated Hanh - since his mother went by Jeffcott and there is no father listed, James and Hannah Flint can't be his parents since they were married in 1777 in Nuneaton, and that would make him legitimate or belong to another man other than James.
Married 1) Sarah Barnsley 4 Feb 1806 Mancetter, Warwick, England
Children: William, Anne

2) Ann Wilkinson 23 May 1811 Kingsbury, Warwick, England (he was 28 she was 36 )

Link to the information about the hot springs (which doesn't mention Richard, but does give dates that can verify the years he would have owned it: http://geoheat.oit.edu/bulletin/bull25-4/art3.pdf
A bit of history for Richard:
He bought the hot springs (currently the area is known as Beck Street) after disposing of several businesses he had in England. He made the springs into a swimming resort and later built a hotel on it. Eventually, through hard work and being possessed of a friendly disposition, the business was very successful and they entertained many travelers and many of the “elite” people in Salt Lake. In 1884 the land was sold to Mr. Beck.

Although it was her idea for Richard to have a second wife, she couldn’t stand the idea of him living with another woman so she stayed at the hot springs and Richard moved to Bountiful with Elizabeth. The children from his second marriage often visited Sarah whom they called their “hot springs Mama” The two families grew up to love and respect each other very much even to their deaths.

Joshua Pearson 1812 Sarah Ann Jeffcot 1814-1883

-M-
third great grandparents

Joshua Pearson (Sr)

Parents:  Unknown
Born Abt 1813 England
NOTE:  someone on Family Search has claimed (more than once)a Henry and Harriet are his parents.  When I looked at the record on Family Search, I found that Henry and Harriet Pearson were married six years AFTER Joshua was born, which made me doubt the validity of this claim. Also, there wasn't one official source (birth or christening or even a census) linking him to them beyond their surname.

IF Henry and Harriet were his parents, Joshua didn't name any of his children after them. I just can't feel right about claiming his parents are Henry and Harriet without more proof. I'm siimply trying to stop more misinformation.

I'll happily eat my words if someone finds out differently because I've been trying to find him. I want to find him. In spite of this, my feeling is, because he hated the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he stayed in England and remarried. I've yet to find one thing about Joshua Pearson after the divorce.

Occupation:  1833: Laborer 1841 Census (Excavator) 1857 Railwad Contractor
Note:  I think the 1857 occupation was supposed to be Railway Contractor.

Married 1) Sarah Jeffcott 3 Dec 1832 Old Swinford, Worcester, England

Marriage record

Note: Joshua was unable to accept Sarah's decision to become a member of the LDS church and they divorced.  There is no proof that I've ever seen that Joshua traveled to the United States.  He was a fairly young man, considering, so he likely remarried, though I have not found any proof - yet.  According to his granddaughter, Leoan: "None of the family corresponded with him after they came to the United States."

Another version (written by great-granddaughter Ellen Briggs Cook) "...Now when these three children were yet young, Joshua Pearson, Sen. went away and left his family supposedly with another woman and he has not been seen or heard of since. But several years later a lady came to their home and asked Great Grandmother if she was the wife of Joshua Pearson and if the three children were his and she told her they were and she said she just wanted to know for herself. So Great Grandmother told her not to worry about her for she would not have him back at any price. The lady left without giving her name or where she came from.
Note: while this reads like something in a novel, there is no proof (or disproof) this happened.  It does sound more like a family legend than reality, given that I heard the reason for the divorce was because he hated the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Also, in that same 'telling' about the 'other woman' it claims Sarah Ann Jeffcot married George Jones after they arrived in Utah and there is physcial proof they were married in England and traveled together to Utah.

Note: Surname spelled Jefcot. There is no middle name.

Occupation: Laundress (1851). This was likely to help pay her and her daughters' way to Utah.
Married (2) Richard George Jones 21 Dec 1853 Aston Juxta Birmingham, Warwick, England
Sarah and Richard's marriage record
Note: they have no middle names listed
Also, Sarah is listed as a widow instead of divorced.

Immigrated: 1859 on board a ship named William Tapscott along with her 2nd husband Richard and two daughters (Frances and Sarah).

Emigrated: Jun 1859- Sep 1859 to Utah with the George Rowley Handcart Company

Edward Frederick Munn
Edward Frederick Munn

Background: The Munn's were from Worcester and moved to Birmingham sometime before coming to America. It was the Pearson side that was from Wiltshire. I have seen a lot of duplication of this incorrect data.

Family Legend: When I spoke to my grandmother (Florence Munn Taylor) years ago, she mentioned that two of Edward's brothers paid for him to come to America and were never heard from again.
Edward was a farmer

The following is a life sketch of this couple as told by their son, Robert.  My corrections or clarifications are in blue.

Edward Fredrick Munn, born Dec 8 1833

At the age of 23, Edward was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Warwickshire, England, in the year of 1856.  (Later, he would apostatize.) He immigrated all alone from the family in 1857. (This could not be true if he were in the Martin Handcart Company who left a year earlier).

After this, the names of those in the Willie handcart Company
are listed followed by the names of the Martin.

Edward Munn mentioned in last paragraph of the article

Here is the 1982 Munn Family Reunion program
NOTE: Edward did travel with the Martin Handcart Company, but according to
this information, he stopped at the North Platte.

He built a little trading post and store on the North Platte River in Nebraska.  He did not build the trading post/store by himself.  He was a partner in the store and the bridge.
He also built a toll bridge in which he charged fifty cents a wagon to cross.  Robert's story confirms what was put into the Family Reunion information. He had many experiences, especially trading hides and pelts with the Indians.  But for a young man with no family behind him, he did very well.

Sarah Ann Pearson born Oct 13, 1839 in Oakley (Oaksey), Wilshire(Wiltshire), England, a daughter of Joshua Pearson and Sarah Ann Jeffcott. She was baptized at the age of 16, in 1856.  She came with her mother to USA April 1859. Sarah was married to Richard before she left England  Her mother fell in love with Richard Jones, whom she married later on in the same year.

Sarah Ann, the youngest of three children, with her mother, left with George Rowley Handcart company along with many more Pioneers on July 4, 1859.  She was then 20 years old.  When they came to the North Platt River, she met Edward Fredrick Munn, and they immediately fell in love.  She stayed and they were married Aug 13, 1859.  The following May in 1860 they came to Utah on a stagecoach.  They had known each other in England, but it wasn't until they met at Nebraska, they fell in love.

After they came to Utah, they had many heartaches.  One of them was trying to deal with Indians who stole their horses and supplies.  "If you ever gave an Indian a cup of sugar, you had to give them all, or they would rob you anyway."

They settled just north of Salt Lake City, where their first child was born.  He was named after his father and called Ed.  They farmed there and sold lots of garden stuff.  Later they moved to Bountiful, where Sarah Ann, who was named for her mother and called Sadie; and another son, Joseph, was born.  They moved to Montpelier, Idaho where they raised lots of hay and grain.  They were there from 1865 to 1874. (He and his family were in Utah in the 1870 Census and he was head of his household, so the dates are a bit off) And four more children were born; Eli, Richard, Charles, and Angelina.  From there they moved to Hooper, Utah in 1874 and in 1875 a baby William was born and died.  Francis, Thomas, Robert, and Olive were all born in Hooper.

Life Note: Edward supposedly had a finger amputated because his finger got caught on a bolt in timber he was unloading from rail cars.  Feeling OSL was negligent in not removing the bolts and nails from the timber, he sued Oregon Short Line for $1500 and was eventually awarded $120.  Another article, this one entitled 'Court Notes' was printed by the same local paper and it claims his finger was 'lacerated' which is a far cry from being crushed so, again, one must remember that the papers are products of an earlier time - late 1880's and early 1900's.  The reporters were obviously not required to verify facts.

One winter they had 70 head of cattle who got into grub-prickly-pears. They lost 35 head.  They also were farming and trapping.  They lived in a one-room log cabin with a lean-to on it with 11 children, (Olive was nearly a year old before Ed got married).

They burned brush to keep warm.  The closest wood was at the Weber Canyon, for there were no trees at all and no water but springs.

Most of the sewing was done at night, being the only time available.  They used homemade wax candles and ground grain to keep alive.  The herd house was the first in Hooper to be built.  It was near their home.  A monument was erected there.  Temple work done by his son Robert and Robert's wife, Verna.

Note:  When he had a heart attack, his youngest daughter, Grace and her second husband came to live with her parents to help her mother take care of Edward.

Death Certificate
Note: his father was not Joshua Munn and his mother wasn't Sarah.
Most likely the aggrieved Sarah when asked "Parent's names?" answered
by giving the name of her own parents.

Olive Grace Munn
Born 26 Sep 1883 Hooper, Davis, Utah
Married (1) George Alvin Craythorn 17 Mar 1904 Ogden, Weber, Utah
Children: Della, George
George and Olive

Notice in paper about George's accident
His surname is misspelled

I read Olive and George were divorced, but the truth, written by Olive herself in 1956 states that:

"George had driven a team of horses to Ogden ( this being our only means of transportation at the time ) to obtain medicine for our baby Ray, who had been ill for several weeks. As he approached the railroad yards in West Ogden, a train whistled and frightened the horses, causing them to run and throw George on to the railroad tracks. The injury received resulted in his tragic death. Our baby, Ray, died three days after his father was killed. Husband and son were buried together in the same casket. They were laid to rest in the Hooper cemetery."
