Frank Hunter Mitchell was born on 26 Sep 1890, in West Bountiful (Woods Cross), Utah, son of Edward Hunter Mitchell and Mary Emery Mitchell.
He married Lurena Taylor 29 Oct 1913 in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death 19 April 1962.
He is survived by six children: Charles
Frank (Ethelene); Edna Murray, Arline (Jake) Opheikens, Alfred T. (Ruth), Eli R
(Dixie), Mary Etta (Karl) Josephson.
Frank Hunter Mitchell was a true Son of Utah Pioneers. His grandfather, Benjamin T. Mitchell, arrived in the valley in 1848, and his father, Edward H. Mitchell, was one of the original settlers of West Bountiful.
The family home on 8th West is still in use. Frank and his father were stone masons and carpenters on the original West Bountiful Ward. He lived his entire life in this area. He made a living farming and later worked at Wasatch Oil and retired from Phillips petroleum in Woods Cross.
After retirement, he remained active, helping his son Eli with his horse breeding program and remodeling the old James Hepworth home on 11th West.
He also bred and sold exotic
pheasants and chickens. He was an avid fisherman and bird hunter until ill
health forbade it, after which he kept active by raising flowers. He provided them
weekly to South Davis Hospital, as well as delivering them to the Bountiful
Cemetery for the Taylor and Mitchell gravesites.
He was a favorite with the children
in the neighborhood as there was always a stash of goodies at Grampas. His
clever Halloween bagged treats will be sorely missed by the young ones.
