NOTE:   Mary (see below) has been shown with TWO set of parents. In a book written in 1886 by a member of the family, she was the daughter of Peter and Hannah. In a more recent magazine, she is named as daughter of Thomas. My inclination is to wonder if there are 2 Mary's. Does anyone know? Both books claim Mary's second marriage was to Trumbull...and the 1886 book (See above snippet) didn't know Daniel's name.

Daniel Elliot 1662 Hannah Cloyes 1677

Daniel testified at Salem Witch trials
Daniel Elliot
Born abt 1665 Salem, Massachusetts, British Colonial America
Parents: Daniel Elliot and Dorcas Pope
Note: his father is also the end of the line and I have so little information that I'll simply name him here until I have more.
Married Hannah Clayes abt 1686
Short history:  Daniel was an early settler in Salem Village, Mass. [now known as Danver and located at Salem End]. He was at Sudburry or Marlboro, Mass. in 1687. In 1686 he married Hannah [Cloyes] Clayes in Framingham, Massachusetts.

"He took up a mill lot near H. 135 and in 1715, by the town's permission, resigned this to his sons Ebenezer and James, thence went a short distance up the stream and settled at the Pope farm, H. 132. Before March, 1720, he had removed to Sutton, and that year sold his home lot and half the mill to Richard Moore. Ebenezer and James remained but a short time and gave the place to Jonathan Provender (who had bought a fourth part of the mill), they thence removing to Sutton."

Concerning the infamous witch trials: (my clarifications are in red):  Daniel Elliott was made famous by his testimony at the Salem Witch Trials in 1692. Daniel testified on behalf of his step-mother-in-law, Sarah Towne Bridges Cloyes (his wife's stepmother and widow of Edmond Bridges).

Translation:  "the testimony of Daniel elet (Elliot) ages 27 years or thear abouts who testifieth & saith that I being at the hous of leutennant ingasone one the 28 of march in the year 1692 thear being preasent one of the afflicted persons which cryed out and saith thears goody procter (nickname for Elizabeth Proctor) William raiment juner being theare present told the garle beleaved she lyed for he saw nothing then goody ingerson told the garl she told aly (a lie) for thear was nothing: then the garl said she did it for sport they must have some sport" (P. 27 Essex County Archives, Salem - Witchcraft Vol. 1)

Daniel Elliot
Born 17 Aug 1687 Framingham, Middlesex, Massachusetts, British Colonial America
Daniel Elliot birth record - spelling is not standardized during the era
Married Sarah Provender 3 Feb 1708 Framingham, Middlesex, Massachusetts
Daniel and Sarah's marriage record - note the double dating.  Standardized dates did not come into vogue until 1752.  At this point in time, the year began in March, but I chose to leave it at 1708 because the clerk which re-recorded the event knew the calendar changed and years begin in January - which is why he double-dated it with 1707 and 1708.
