Short life history:
Eliza's family moved to Ogden, Utah in 1852 when she was about three years old, then in about 1862, at the age of thirteen, the family moved to Madison County, Montana where she met and married Isaac Luckey in about 1865. In 1865 or 66, Isaac and Eliza moved to California to the Sacramento Valley, where they took up a homestead in Denverton, Solano, California. Land records for Denverton Township show Isaac as a farmer with a 160 acre section in the southeast corner of the township.

The family farmed here for some 16 years, during which time they had eight children, (Note The children may have been born in Rio Vista which is about ten miles east by south east of Denverton, which was quite a small town with a population in 1878 of about 54 families in the total Denverton Township.

In 1882, the family began a long trek to Vernal, Uintah County, Utah. They drove a herd of cattle the 800 miles with several of the children helping out. Here in Vernal, they had four more children

They settled first in Steinaker Draw, later moving to a claim on Taylor Mountain and then back to Ashley Ward.

They divorced in 1903.  Several years after Isaac's death, in about 1909, Eliza Jane packed up her belongings and with two of her sons, George A. and Forest D, in a one-horse buggy, headed for Star Valley, Wyoming, where another of her son's, Johnny, had died leaving a homestead. She not only proved up on his homestead but also took up another homestead of 320 acres of land in the wilderness of Swan Valley, Idaho.

On 16 Jun 1917, Eliza married William "Billy" MORRIS in Freedom, Wyoming. William was born in Sussex, England in 1861 and first immigrated to Canada in 1907, then across the U.S. to Wyoming. In 1920, Billie and Eliza sold out their holdings and moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho where they spent the remainder of their lives.

Billy died 9 Apr 1946 and Eliza Jane died 18 May 1948 at the age of 98. They are both buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

SHORT BIO:  -Vernal Express, Dec. 4, 1952, transcribed by Rhonda Holton -edited by M.E.

Nellie Eleanor Luckey was born in Rio Vista, California in 1868, to Isaac Thomas and Eliza Jane Taylor Luckey. The Luckey's moved to the Vernal area in 1882. It took them over a year to make the trek as they herded cows 800 miles. Nellie and her little brother had to help. She was twelve years old. William Powell and Isaac (Nellie's father) became good friends and William and Nellie became acquainted.

Nellie married William Swinford Powell, son of Charles Kelly and Elizabeth Ann Ellington Powell, on 1 Feb 1887 in Vernal. They lived in a big one room house William had built out of cottonwood logs. He built more rooms as the family grew. They had five children.

Nellie knew horses and could handle them as well as a man. She did horse trading with the Indians who frequently traveled by their homestead.  In 1902, William bought 200 acres of ranchland on the Green River in Jensen.

Some husbands died and one took all her money, but William helped her when she was ill or down and out. He always made sure she had a place to live. According to her grandson, Nellie never was happy after she divorced William.

She was known to many to the grandchildren as "Grandma Savage"

After the divorce, Nellie married four other husbands: John Harper, Frank Fairchild, George Emory Stone, and Erastus Savage. Some husbands died and one took all her money, but William helped her when she was ill or down and out. He always made sure she had a place to live.

According to her grandson, Nellie never was happy after she divorced William. The 1910 census for Uintah County indicates that her sons John, William and daughter Nellie were living with her and John Harper. Nellie died in 1952 at 84 years of age. She had a colorful character and came to be known as Grandma Savage. She is buried next to her father, Isaac, in the Vernal Cemetery.

Born 26 May 1871 Denverton, Solano, California
Married Sarah Ann Johnson 30 Dec 1895
Children:  Vivian (male), James, Lester, Marion (male), Sarah
NOTE: three of their children (Vivian, Marion, and Sarah) were buried in the Wyoming State Training School Cemetery - possibly four (Lester).  I thought the name was odd for a cemetery .  This is what I discovered:  Wyoming State Training School started in 1912 for mentally retarded people. (At the time known as Feeble Minded). The cemetery was first used in 1913.
During the depression, parents dumped their children off because they couldn't afford them, NOT because they were mentally retarded.   Lester, Marion, Sarah, Vivian, and Alton are inmates of the 'school' in the 1930 Census when the depression was so bad.  At the same time, and more curious, is the fact they are also showing as being home with their parents in Lonetree in the 1930 Census.  James was with his father in the 1940 Census and doesn't show on the school records - so far.  The others were still at the school, except Vivian who had died.  It's a puzzle - does anyone know anything about it?

Joseph Taylor 1751-1819 Sarah Best 1764-1836

Joseph (2) Taylor
Note: after looking at a few SAR (Sons of American Revolution) applications online at ancestry.com that were from the 1900's, I realized Joseph needs proof of his parents.  One of the SAR applicants claimed (President) Zachary Taylor and second wife, Esther W Blackburn, are Joseph's parents.   THIS IS NOT TRUE - please read the following update.

UPDATE:  From Family Tree c/o Ron Taylor:   We (he's talking about the Taylor Organization) have extensive paper research and DNA research which proves that Joseph is not son of Zachary. This error has been perpetuated for many years and is false. His father is Joseph Taylor and mother is Nancy. Her surname is yet to be proven. Old Temple family group sheets were stamped DNS

ANOTHER UPDATE from Ron Taylor: there are two grave memorials for Joseph. One was placed by DAR (Daughters of American Revolution) and the other is the massive one that is seen here. Both have mistakes. Ron and the Taylor Association are working to document the errors on both - such as the stone for Joseph that is near Richardsville, Kentucky, shouldn't even be there. I'll post more updates as they become available.

Joseph Taylor
Born Abt 1751 Tyrrell, North Carolina
According to the book Coneto Creek Taylors, there is a common-sense lot of evidence that Joseph was not born in Orange County, Virginia, but near the headwaters of Coneho and Coneto Creek where the Taylor's had lived for many years.  Unfortunately, there is no proof to be had because during Sherman's March to the Sea, the Nanesemond county records were almost totally destroyed.
