CHILDREN

There is an issue: It was not uncommon to name two children the same if the first one died; it was even less common to name an 'heir and a spare' by the same name, however, it was done. In this family's case, the first Eli reached an age to get married so I can't understand why they would use Eli a second time.  Maybe the second Eli died at birth (common in twins) and they couldn't think of another name?  Also, they were very fond of the name Henry - using it in three of the children's names.

Charles' death and probate information

Obituary from a local paper: 

With painful suddenness, the death occurred during the early hours of Tuesday morning of Mr. Charles Couse, baker and confectioner, of 225 High Street, West Bromich. Mr. Couse who was 67 years of age and was well known and deeply respected in the town had been spending the evening with some friends, returning home at 10:30 p.m. About two a.m. he had a seizure and although medical assistance was quickly summoned, he never rallied and passed away a few hours later.

Succeeding to an old established business, Mr. Couse rose to a position of eminence in his trade...For five years he was a Director of West Albion Bromich Football Club and for three years, he served as a representative of Sandwell Ward on the Town Council. He was also President of the West Bromich Master Bakers Association, on the executive committee of the Birmingham and District Master Bakers Association, Treasurer of the New Y.M.C.A. and Superintendent of the Wesley Sunday School.
