Occupation: Teacher (1880) Store Keeper and Gauger (1881 to 1885)
Military: Enlisted Nov 1861. Third Corporal, Company E, 11th Regiment Kentucky Infantry (Union, age 18), was wounded at Stone River. Discharged in December 1864. After the war, attended Bethel College and became a teacher. Spent two years teaching and serving as Superintendent in Labette county, Kansas where he owned 160 acres of land. He returned home and continued teaching until 1880. In 1878 he was living on 25 acres of land in Kentucky. In politics, he was a Republican and his first presidential vote was for General Grant.
