Nicholas Wren Taylor
-M-
1st cousin 5xr
Reverend Nicholas Wren "Rene" Taylor

Parents Joseph Best Taylor and Polly Ann Hudnall
To see him with his parents and sibs:  https://upperlevelgen.blogspot.com/2013/11/joseph-best-taylor-and-polly-ann-hudnall.html
Born 21 Jun 1828 Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky
Social and Community:  joined Farmers Alliance and served as President of the County Alliance.
He was also socially identified with the masonic order
Occupation(s):
Elected Sheriff in 1861
Reverend of Methodist-Episcopal Church (ordained in 1862)
Farmer (1880)
Teacher
His name was mentioned for State Senator but he had very strong feelings about temperance.
Married Julia Ann Elizabeth Cole 26 June 1854 Bowling Green, Warren, Kentucky
The 1894 Kansas History and Heritage project reported about Nicholas that in 1854: bought 970 acres in Warren County, Kentucky then turned around and sold it, moving to Missouri in Mississippi County.
1855: settled in Jefferson County, Kansas near Winchester, eventually buying up 240 acres which he sold in 1869. He opened and operated a store in Mulberry for two years.
From 1871-1886 he lived in a stone home he built from rock in the quarry on his land with the exception of 1 year in Girard and 3 years in Baldwin City.
In 1873 he fell from a load of hay onto a 3-tined fork which entered his body just below the sternum. Two of the tines passed through his lungs and the third penetrated the liver and came out near the spinal column.  It was nearly fatal and took a long time to recuperate.
1886 he moved into his final home which he built at the cost of $12,000
He owned 557 acres of land and raised grain and stock, specializing in raising Poland-China Hogs with great success.

Thomas Turney 1753-1840 Amy Coy 1772-1838

-H-
5th Ggrandfather

Thomas Turney ("the Turncoat")

Parents: Thomas Turney and Martha Lyon
Born 2 Mar 1754 Fairfield Township, Fairfield, Connecticut
Thomas was referred to as a "Turncoat" because he fled to Long Island, New York to join the Loyalists (those loyal to the English crown) in 1776.  He was said to have 'joined the enemy' (18 May 1781 Fairfield Town Records) and the fact he was not mentioned in his father's will means he was in disfavor. He moved to New Brunswick, Canada in 1783 as a loyalist. He first settled on the Kennebecasis River in Kings County, then in 1787 received a land grant at Keswick, Douglas Parish, York County. In 1797 he purchased land at Swan Creek, Burton Parish, Sunbury County.
Married Amy Coy 15 Nov 1792 Gagetown, Queens, New Brunswick, Canada
Died 23 Mar 1840 Sunbury, New Brunswick, Canada

Obituary: Carleton Sentinal, 27 Oct 1877
At Bath, Kent, on the 14th August last, the widow of the late John Giberson, aged 83 years, 10 months. The deceased was the mother of 10 children, 98 grandchildren, 90 great grand children. A widow for 43 years, she devoted herself faithfully to the careful upbringing of her own children, 2 adopted children besides several of her grandchildren. She was always hospitable to the full extent of her means, and got her living by the sweat of her face. For 5 months before her death she became helpless and during this time often used to speak of her conversion when a little child. A number of years after her conversion she was baptized by her brother Rev. G.W. Orser. She lived a Christian to the last. Her funeral was attended by Elder Estabrook, assisted by Rev. G.W. Orser. A sermon was preached from Revelations 14th Chapter and 13th verse. "Even down to old age all my people shall prove His sovereign, eternal, unchangeable love, And when hoary hairs shall my temples adorn Like lambs they shall still in my bosom be borne."
