From Denison Review Newspaper 29 May 1885: A little three year old son of Cyrus Dobson, of Deloit, has been quite sick this week with a species of typhoid fever.

We gather the following facts in relation to the drowning of Miss Sarah Crane.
Mr. Isaac Bronson accompanied by Miss Georgie Springer and Miss Sarah Crane, a sister to his brother's wife, started from his farm for Denison, but as he intended to leave some grist at the mill, he drove towards the McKim's mill. The water run over the road and he was carried over the dam, below the road, and all were struggling in the water. Mr. Bronson tried to save both ladies but Miss Crane drifted away when her clothes caught in a wire fence, and the pressure of the water kept her under. Mr. Bronson caught on a tree and caught Miss Springer as she floated by. Mr. Cary Phillips procured help at Deloit, while Cyrus Dobson was the first to swim out. He tied Miss Springer to the tree until a raft could be made. Had the whereabouts of Miss Crane been known at once she would undoubtedly have been saved.

Last Saturday our usually quiet village was thrown into a state of intense excitement by the report that there was three people drowning in Otter Creek. Hurrying to the scenes of the awful calamity, the sight that me the gaze of those gathering on the banks of the swoolen waters made the stoutest heart quail. For far out in the center of the turbid waters, clinging to a slender willow, were two beings calling loudly for help.
The call for a rope was responded to by C. J. Hunt (with a coil of rope hastily seized at the first call for help). Who threw the end to A. A. Lambert, who started for the tree to which the parties were clinging, closely followed by J. C. Phillips, Cyrus Dobson and W. Whipkey. Upon arriving at the place they found the parties to be Miss Georgia Springer and Ike Bronson. They quickly made the lady fast to the tree and rendered Bronson such aid as was possible. In the meantime those on the shore were constructing a raft with boards torn from the bridge, which was placed in charge of Myron Myers, who gallantly started to the assistance of those in the water.
He succeeded in rescuing Miss Springer first, whom he landed safely, then he returned and brought out Bronson. Miss Springer was taken to Mrs. M. Hunt's where she received the best of care and attention. She was nearly exhausted, having been in the water about 30 minutes. Upon inquiry it was learned that Miss Sibbie Crane was still in the water. A search was immediately made for her and her body was found lodged against a wire fence.
The supposition is that she fainted, and her hair becoming entangled in the wire held her until she was drowned. Had it been known that she was in the water, the probabilities are that she could have been saved. Every effort was put forth to restore life but to no avail. Her body was placed in the hands of sympathizing friends, who showed the respect to the departed that only christians can show.
The awful calamity casts a gloom over the entire community which will remain a long time.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church by Rev. Mr. Young, assisted by Rev. E. Fegtley, at Deloit, Tuesday, June 9 at 10 o'clock. We feel that there cannot be too much praise bestowed on our citizens for their bravery and coolness, especially Cyrus Dobson, Myron Myers, A. A. Lambert and W. Whipkey, who displayed much courage and nerve and great presence of mind.
Everyone regrets the death of Miss Crane. All was done for her that could be possible for humans to do. We must commend the ladies of Deloit for their efforts to alleviate the sufferings of those that were rescued and for their sympathy and care of the dead. 5 Jun 1895: -T. C. Dobson and wife of Sac Co., attended the convention held at Deloit Saturday and Sunday.14 Jul 1897: The many friends of Mrs. T. C. Dobson regret to learn of an accident in a runaway while returning home from Odebolt which resulted in breaking her collar bone. From same newspaper 21 Jul 1897 : T. C. Dobson and wife and daughter, Dollie, visited friends and relatives a day or two last week. Mrs. Dobson is getting along as well as possible with a broken bone. 11 Aug 1897: Jennie Newcom (who became Thomas' daughter-in-law) returned home from Sac City where she has been attending school, for a week's vacation under the parental roof, after which she will return to attend normal. She will teach a fall term of school in Sac county near T. C. Dobson's. Miss Jennie is making a successful teacher, and is loved by all who know her. 17 Nov 1897: T. C. Dobson, wife and daughters came down from Odebolt Friday. Their daughters will attend college at Denison this winter. 14 Dec 1897: Elders Hunt and McKim started for Cherokee last Friday, by team, stopping at T. C. Dobsons Friday night and from there to Cherokee, where they go in the interests of missionary and Sunday school work. 1 Dec 1887: - Miss Ward, sister of Mrs. Cyrus Dobson, is visiting with her. 10 Feb 1898: Cyrus Dobson went to Dow City visiting. Found rather more mud than snow on coming home

Horr went to Ulmer Saturday and visited with their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Putbrese and Aunt Lucy Dobson until Monday afternoon. 12 Apr 1916: S. Horr sold his corn popper house and fixtures to Geo. Landon the latter part of the week. 26 Apr 1916: Mr. and Mrs. S. Horr departed last Thursday noon for Thunder Hawk, S. D. where they will visit their daughters, Mrs. Robt. McKim and Mrs. Claud McKim. From there they will go to Montana to visit their son, Bert Horr. Mr. and Mrs. Horr expect to be gone all summer. Mr. and Mrs. S. Horr took dinner with Mrs. Dobson Thursday.

Dear Review:
As so many of our friends wished to hear from us, I take the opportunity of writing to our dear paper. We left home April 20th, after bidding many of our friends goodbye, for a trip to South Dakota and Montana, going by the way of Bronson, Iowa, to visit a few days at the homes of relatives, James and Martin Horr. The afternoon of our departure was very rainy. Goose Lake was full of ducks that flew up and lighted elsewhere as the train was passing
As so many of our friends wished to hear from us, I take the opportunity of writing to our dear paper. We left home April 20th, after bidding many of our friends goodbye, for a trip to South Dakota and Montana, going by the way of Bronson, Iowa, to visit a few days at the homes of relatives, James and Martin Horr. The afternoon of our departure was very rainy. Goose Lake was full of ducks that flew up and lighted elsewhere as the train was passing
We were met at the depot by James Horr, who conveyed us in his auto to his pleasant home. Saturday evening after supper, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Horr and I autoed to Sioux City, a distance of 15 miles, where we did some trading. From Morningside we have paved streets for five miles to the city. The street cars and autos compel one to be on the lookout constantly in driving a car. We got back at 11 p.m.
On Sunday we partook of a lovely Easter dinner prepared by Miss Carrie Patton and Mrs. M. A. Horr at James Horr's home and in the afternoon we autoed to Graceland cemetery at Morningside, where Mrs. James Horr is buried. This is a lovely cemetery and kept up in fine condition. We left Bronson Monday afternoon, going by auto in company with James Horr and Mrs. M. A. Horr and spent a short time around the city. At 7 p.m. we took the Milwaukee train and went right into the sleeping car, where we spent a comfortable night and got up greatly rested just as we reached Aberdeen. We did not have to change cars there as usual and went on to McIntosh, where we left the flyer for a local train as the flyer did not stop at Thunder Hawk, our destination which was about the fourth station from McIntosh.
The first afternoon all along the way coming to Bronson some fields of small grain were up and in other fields men were out working in the rain. Tuesday morning we had reached the level country of Dakota, where one could see as far as the eye could reach. We missed the hills and the trees and the splendid scenery of good old Iowa. It is tiresome to my eyes to look over that level country. After we crossed the Missouri River at Mobridge, passing through the Indian reservation, there were small houses, but very little land under cultivation until we drew near to McIntosh. In and around Thunder Hawk and Lemon there are large fields and a great deal of stock raising.
The farmers are busy getting their small grain in. The spring is at least two weeks later than at home, but the farmers are prospering and all seem happy and contented. We are both feeling well and enjoying our visit.

*Editor Review: We arrived at Glen, Minn., November 2nd, where we have been enjoying a nice visit at the pleasant home of our cousins, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Goff, and where we have had land interests for several years. The many lakes, with the clear crystal water and the abundance of timber looks good to us. We have decided to locate on our land and move here as soon as possible and sell our home in Deloit, which has been our home for fifty years, and for more than twenty years I acted as correspondent for the Review. And I wish to thank the readers of the Deloit items for their support, which I appreciated greatly. I tried to be loyal to all in the general news, weddings and obituaries as far as I was able to obtain the items. Where I made mistakes I beg pardon. We were in the Deloit post office for eleven and a half years, with other business interests and thereby made a wide acquaintance. I served as notary public thirteen years and hope I have contributed something toward the best interests of Deloit and vicinity. I have a great many friends there that I hate to leave; some old people that I should have loved to comfort in their old age. But my health and that of my husband is so much better here. I think the change of climate is best for us And to my dear old friends, I will say, although absent from you, you will ever be held dear in my memory. With love and best regards to all and the success and best wishes for the Review.
