COD: presumed drowned or hit by boom/rudder - see article
Boston New-Letter Thursday 12 May 1757 Issue 2862 Page 1 which would make Monday, the day the sloop and bodies were found, the 9th of May.  I have seen the date of death as 2nd of May elsewhere, so perhaps that was the day the gale hit and the sloop/bodies weren't washed ashore until then or they'd already been there a while and only found at that time. I'm waiting to hear from a family member why they listed that date.

Transcription from 3rd paragraph on anything in red you see are my notes, since I have no idea what some things were : On Monday, the second instant in the night, was castaway on Salt-House Beach near Plymouth, A Bumpkin Sloop (a 'bumpkin' is a boom or beam of timber projecting from the bow by which to extend the lower edge of the foresail to the windward), burthen about 30 Tons (how much the sloop was carrying at time), laden with sand, having a new windlass (apparatus for moving heavy weight), and new quarter-rails and stanchions (long thin post used to support craft's life lines); there was found on board her, the bodies of two men dead; the names of whom are at present unknown: any person or persons owning said vessel are desired to repair to Plymouth, where she now is, and they may have her, paying charges to Consider Howland of said Plymouth.

Since the above, we learn that the names of the persons are, David Orcutt of Cohasset, and Robert Vinal of Scituate. Tis supposed that one of their deaths was occasioned by the boom or rudder, there being very high gales of wind that day after they left Squam, where they loaded. Tis uncertain what occasioned the other's death; he was found almost buried among the sand in the hold.
NOTE:  According to Google Maps, Squam, where the men left for their voyage, was about 102 'walking' miles from Plymouth where the bodies were found. The storm pushed them north at least that far, up into Cape Cod Bay and, eventually, Duxbury (a.k.a. Salt House Beach - 8 miles north of Plymouth).    The article doesn't not let us know if the body that was nearly buried was David's or Robert's.
