Will of Anthony Alexander : 1784

ALEXANDER, ANTHONY
State of North Carolina Tyrrell County Book 1, page 141Dated 4 April 1784
In the name of God amen: I Anthony Alexander of Tyrrell County in the state of North Carolina Planter being very sick and weak of body but of perfect sound mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God and calling to mind the uncertainty of death knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, desire to make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following -
First and principally I recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection at the last day I shall receive the same again hoping thro, the merits death and passion of my blessed Saviour Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon of all my sins and my body I leave to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned and as touching such worldly goods as it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me in this life I leave demise and bequeath in the manner and form following.
Imprimis - My will and desire is that my land called the Body Land joining Phelps's back line be sold and my swamp joining Batemans line and so up to Nehimiah Spruills bridge be sold likewise by my Executors to pay debts and the overplus if any to put to the use of my childrens support in raising.
Imprimis - I give will and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Ann Alexander all my moveable Estate.
Imprimis - I give will and bequeath to my beloved son Joshua Alexander my plantation and land belonging to the same agreeable to the lines of my deed to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
Imprimis - I give and bequeath to my beloved son Zepheniah Alexander the remaining part of my Swamp from Nehemiah Spruill bridge to the upper end of the patent agreeable to the lines and the river to him his heirs and assigns forever -
Imprimis - I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Joanna Milla and Ann Alexander one shilling sterling each.
Imprimis - I nominate constitute and appoint my well beloved wife my Executrix and beloved brother Joshua Alexander and my trusty friend Joseph Phelps my whole and sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament revoking all other Wills by me heretofore made allowing this only to be my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this 4th day of April 1784.
